GCSE English is being revised for first teaching in 2010 alongside GCSE Maths and ICT. This revision takes into account the changes being made to the key stage 4 programmes of study, which includes Functional Skills.
The QCA proposals for English include the introduction of a third GCSE, meaning that from 2010 there will be GCSEs available in:
The QCA consultation on the proposals is now complete and the final subject criteria is expected to be released by QCA in December 2008.
Current QCA proposals link the achievement of GCSE to Functional Skills in that a Level 2 pass in Functional Literacy will be required in order to achieve a grade C or above at GCSE.
